Chateau Ploizeau is a family-owned estate in the world-famous Bordeaux region of France. They’ve been knocking out bloody good value, classic Bordeaux-style reds for four generations with Monsieur Frédéric Bellot now running the show. Here’s a top tip – Frederic spent 8 years at the First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion! First as a trainee then as an assistant winemaker, returning to the family business in 2014.

From a real belter of a 2020 vintage in this part of the wine world which is backed by THREE Gold medals at wine shows in France! In fact, Frederic probably isn’t the only winemaker utterly stoked with the 2020 vintage. “2020 Bordeaux will be seen as part of the incredible, and in some ways, and the unequaled trilogy of vintages: 2018, 2019, and 2020. Undoubtedly 3 of the best vintages Chateau Ploizeau has ever produced!”

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet it’s a style that Wine Enthusiast says is “dominated by ripe, luscious Merlot. It's black fruits and light structure match the wine’s richness. Still young and fruity, the wine needs a little while to age, so drink from 2021.”

Chateau Ploizeau is a member of the VIF (Vignerons indépendants de France) – a wine group set up to help the little guy! They have six rules that all members must be able to tick off (that many of the big guys simply can’t) including rolling up your sleeves and working in the vineyard yourself, harvesting your own grapes, aging the wine yourself, and bottling the wine yourself.

Pull out the cork and give it an hour to breathe. Frédéric says the best food to pair this with one would be steak, lamb, duck, or as a pairing with a cheeky cheese board.

Beautiful dark and shiny purple.

The explosion of fresh, ripe plum and blueberry on the nose is tinged with a hint of pepper and licorice that exudes a certain elegance.

With a nice touch on the palate, respecting the fruit, a hint of mocha, and cloves. The slightly acidulous flesh, greedy and charming little tannins.
